A 5 for Friday Catch-Up

I haven't blogged in a while! Life has been great, hectic & stressful all at once. Here is a mixed-mash-up catch-up of the last two weeks:

This term we are learning all about transport & road safety under the Inquiry topic "What things move?"
We started out by brainstorming. They are pretty insightful kidlets, even the poppet who drew "dancing clouds" because they move :)

Highlight of last week {I had major flu brain, I've had 3 days off in the last 2 weeks which I rarely do}- Poppet M comes in from lunch carrying two large sacks. Me, "Honey, what are those?" Cue rest of the class laughing hysterically in background. M's reply, "My socks. My brother helped me fill them up with sand at lunch."
It's about at this time that I realise he is barefoot and one of my girl's were carrying his shoes. I failed in keeping a straight face!

Master M with his socks full of sand/sock bags

We spent a fantastic 3 days in Melbourne last weekend for my friend's wedding. It was just gorgeous!
Cool street art in Collingwood

Fantastic venue- Mountain Goat Brewery in Richmond.

 Wedding cuteness! The hubs & me.

Twilight in Port Melbourne

I also got a chance to get some nail art at i scream nails in Collingwood. If you're in Melbourne check them out! Or for nail inspiration follow them on instagram.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend! Love & jelly tots,

10 Things I've Learned from Teaching

I have been feeling a bit 'head up in the clouds' at the minute- way too much to do and I wish I had a clone- so I haven't been putting much effort into my blog but.... I had a good chuckle reading Miss Kindergarten's "10 Things I've Learned" post so I thought I would join in!
{sorry about the extremely long sentence!}

1. It's ok to ask for help & ask for it a lot!

2. Tissues & hand sanitiser were made by the Gods- have them in vast quantities.

3. Student teachers who say "oh, I don't drink coffee" are cute deluded things

4. Even on the worst days a poppet will always do something to make you smile. Yesterday it was the cutie who said, "Good Morning Mrs Perry and you look very beautiful today", he is 5, a terror for most of the time and made me smile hard- the sweetheart.

5. Sometimes, no matter what you do you can't please everybody. Yes, I mean "that" parent.

6. When you think you have seen it all- you haven't. Some kid will always do something to surprise you in a good way (the child who reads a level 28 at the end of Prep) and in a "they did what?!" way (like the poppet and her two friends who somehow opened the power switchboard, flicked a ton of switches & managed to short circuit our Admin's computer system.... yep)

7. Somehow it is possible to go through 300 grey lead pencils in 41 weeks with only 23 kids in your class.

8. Excursions always seem like a good idea at the planning time and like the worst idea ever the day before.

9. Getting the glitter out to use with any kids under 10 is a bad idea. Just don't do it {she says as she gets out the glitter}

10. I can handle vomit & pee but find a dead mouse in my room and I'll run for the hills.

Yay! 100 Followers & Five for Friday time!

I was still in the report writing/editing haze last weekend so I missed out on linking up with Doodle Bugs but I'm back this week!

Also, be prepared for a lot of exclamation marks in this post :)

I cannot believe we're only one week away from mid-year holidays! Bring it on!

On Thursday we took the poppets on excursion to Melbourne as a finish to our Dinosaur unit. To make our 10am start at the Museum we were on the buses and gone at 7.30am, which meant I was at school just after 6.30. I stopped to get a huge cup of coffee on the way so I would survive :)

The kiddos were SO good! I have to admit I was worried beforehand. Excursions are super stressful as it is (taking almost 90 kiddos 2 hours away, the lists, timetables, constant counting so you don't lose anyone, trying to get 22 kids on an escalator at once.. etc) and I have a few high needs kiddos this year but they were absolutely brilliant. I was really lucky to have 3 extra teachers with my group {just in case} and they were an amazing help.

We were "palaeontologists" in our Dinosaur walk tour & talk. They were so cute.

Yesterday, because of our huge day Thursday, we had Fun Friday. We went to the computer lab for an hour of Reading Eggs, then watched The Land Before Time and had a 90's Power ballad (Roxette, Bon Jovi & Wilson Phillips.... lol they wanted Gangnam style but my choices were better) dance party in the afternoon.

This little man asked one of my cutie girls to dance! He led her around the room and everything! Cutest thing ever!! He is one of my Autistic poppets so it made my heart especially sing because we haven't been having the easiest time lately. He will break hearts.

And (after much working out due to the switch from Google Reader to Blog Lovin') I have officially reached 100 followers!
